W3 managed to row on, even catching a men’s crew, but had to be scratched due to a lack of availabilities

W2 had a frantic first couple of days, being bumped just before the gut by Catz II and Exeter II but finally got their heads in the boat on Friday to battle against rain and strong gusts to hold off Wadham III in a proud row over. On the final day they fought strong and hard against a gaining Worcester III, keeping them at bay until the final stretch which saw them bumped just outside Univ boathouse.

One can argue M2‘s first day was the one that would dictate the success of their week, and they rose brilliantly to the challenge, holding off the notorious Jesus Vikings and getting the overbump on Queen’s M2. On Thursday they could do nothing against a very fast St Hilda’s M1, but they can have regrets about Friday when they got bumped by Pembroke M3, who managed to maintain their boat speed better in the difficult weather conditions. On Saturday they faced the Vikings again, this time not letting them get closer than a length and rowing over with style to end the week on +1 overall.

W1 started VIIIs with a bump from Worcester at the end of green banks, and their chance to catch them was quickly ended the following day when they went into the wall after two strokes giving Jesus an easy row past. Following W2’s trend, they rowed over in style on Friday, missing out on bumping Jesus by half a length when they caught New admirably quickly but disaster struck again on Saturday when after 15 strokes and only ¼ length off, they bumped not New but the bank to discover that their rudder had sheared off. It was a week where they definitely showed some speed, but unfortunately couldn’t get the luck to go their way.

M1 were feeling confident about the week, and on the first day this was justified as they closed to 1/8 of a length off LMH before a steering failure meant they hit the bank and were bumped by Exeter. They made up for it on the next two days, first chasing back Exeter in an epic battle that ended right in front of the boathouse, then dispatching of LMH much more easily on Friday with a bump after the gut. The final day was by far the most exciting, as they were chasing New who were chasing a sluggish St John’s crew. M1 finally got the bump in front of 10,000 people down boathouse island, right in front of New’s boathouse!

All in all a successful week!
